Боекомплект модернизированного танка Т-80БВМ пополнился снарядами с сердечником из обедненного урана, сообщает ТАСС. Механизм заряжания новой машины был доработан под бронебойные оперенные подкалиберные снаряды 3БМ59 «Свинец-1» и 3БМ60 «Свинец-2».

Если «Свинец-1» имеет сердечник из карбида вольфрама, то сердечник «Свинца-2» выполнен из обедненного урана и способен пробить на дистанции два километра броню толщиной 800−830 мм.
До этого снаряды с обедненным ураном входили в боекомплект только американского танка M1 Abrams. Например, модификация американского танка М1A2 вооружена 120-мм гладкоствольной пушкой, в боекомплект которой входит подкалиберный оперенный снаряд с удлиненным сердечником из обедненного урана M829А4, способный проникать сквозь российскую динамическую защиту типа «Контакт» или «Реликт». Бронепробиваемость боеприпаса — более 800 мм на дальности в два км.
