Выявлена новая опасность внутриклеточного паразита токсоплазма (Toxoplasma gondii), переносимого кошками. Специалисты из Копенгагенской университетской больницы провели соответствующие исследования, сообщает журнал Brain, Behavior, and Immunity.

Toxoplasma gondii опасен для детей и взрослых со слабым иммунитетом. Этот паразит гораздо коварнее, чем предполагалось. При проникновении в организм он повышает риск развития шизофрении на 50%.

В исследовании датских ученых поучаствовали около 80 тыс. добровольцев, из них 2,5 тыс. страдали от психических расстройств. У некоторых в ходе наблюдений зафиксировали в организме Toxoplasma gondii.

По словам экспертов, инфекция у людей появилась в организме раньше, чем медики диагностировали шизофрению. Связь между психическим заболеванием и заражением Toxoplasma gondii стала еще более очевидной.

Специалисты утверждают, что около 2 млрд жителей планеты могут быть носителями паразита. В большинстве случаев он никак себя не проявляет и на здоровье не влияет, но острый токсоплазмоз крайне опасен.

Ранее научные сотрудники Университета Миннесоты заявили, что кошки «лечат» смертельно опасные болезни.
