Американские военные хотят строить тактические тоннели на поле боя. Разработкой технологии, позволяющей быстро возводить такие сооружения, займется Департамент перспективных исследований Пентагона (DARPA), пишет в статье для журнала The National Interest аналитик Майкл Пек.

Во многих регионах, где присутствует войска США, террористы используют тоннели для скрытного перемещения. Проанализировав эту тактику, американские военные сочли ее эффективной. Предполагается, что тоннели позволят американским войскам не использовать уязвимые линии снабжения передовых баз. Тоннели добавляют новое измерение — подземное — для ведения боевых операций.
На первую стадию реализации проекта потребуется около одиннадцати миллионов долларов. Эти деньги нужны для оценки эффективности методов бурения и прокладывания тоннелей, чтобы определить оптимальную глубину, ширину и другие параметры подземных сооружений.
