Военные Индии во время ракетного испытания уничтожили космический спутник, который находился на низкой околоземной орбите, объявил в обращении к нации премьер-министр страны Нарендра Моди. Он назвал это крупным прорывом в индийской космической программе, передает Reuters.

«Сегодня Индия совершила беспрецедентное достижение, — сказал Моди. — Теперь Индия — крупная космическая держава». Он уточнил, что спутник находился на высоте 300 км, и подчеркнул, что миссия не была направлена против какого-либо конкретного государства.
Индия стала четвертой страной, которая провела испытание противоспутникового оружия, после США, России и Китая. Дели развивает свою космическую программу с 1947 года. За это направление отвечает Индийская организация космических исследований (ISRO).
Главный редактор журнала «Арсенал Отечества» полковник запаса Виктор Мураховский не исключил вероятность, что Индия действительно могла сбить спутник на низкой околоземной орбите.
«В принципе, никаких технических или технологических секретов в этом нет. Это так называемая противоракета с высокой энергетикой, с большой досягаемостью по высоте. Сейчас такие средства уничтожения спутников на низких орбитах имеют несколько стран: США, Россия, Китай, о наличии такой системы заявил Израиль. У Индии есть запущенные спутники в космосе. Вполне возможно, что они отработали по выслужившему срок своему собственному спутнику», — пояснил эксперт. Он отметил, что Индия активно развивает ракетные технологии, в частности создала ракету средней дальности, а также располагает ракетами оперативно-тактической дальности.
В октябре 2019 года Индия планирует отправить на Луну миссию «Чандраян-2» в составе орбитального и посадочного модулей с шестиколесным луноходом на борту. Луноход будет размещен на поверхности в районе Южного полюса, его задача — в течение 14 дней вести поиски гелия-3 и воды.
Индия также планирует до 2022 года отправить в космос пилотируемую миссию.
