Йети — огромное обезьяноподобное существо, часто фигурирует в южноазиатском фольклоре. Оно также известно как снежный человек, который, по легенде, обитает на вершинах Гималаев. Истории людей, утверждавшие, что видели йети или его следы, очень популярны в регионах Индии, Непала и Бутана.
Несмотря на то, что следы были обнаружены еще 9 апреля, армия поделилась своим открытием с общественностью только после того, как убедилась, что оно вписывается в существующие теории о существовании снежного человека, сообщает Times of India.

«Вот и разгадка! Йети пользуется палкой-скакалкой», — пишет один пользователь.
«Со всем уважением к другим участникам дискусии, тот, кого мы принимаем за йети, на самом деле наверняка либо тяньшанский бурый медведь, либо тибетский бурый медведь. Оба ростом более двух метров и обычно используют для ходьбы только две лапы. А один большой след они оставляют в случаях, когда передвигаются на всех четырех», — пытается объяснить другой.
В ответ на сомнения со стороны пользователей участники экспедиции заявили, что доказательство существования йети было задокументировано и «передано экспертам в данной области».
«Мы сочли благоразумным [поделиться с общественностью нашим открытием] для того, чтобы возродить интерес к этой теме», — отметили военные. Но верят в это не все.
В последние годы было предпринято немало попыток раскрыть тайну вокруг йети, но ни одного официального доказательства существования снежного человека пока так и не обнаружено.
В 2011 году ученые из Шотландского зоопарка получили кость, которой было больше 50 лет и про которую говорили, что она может принадлежать снежному человеку. В итоге они доказали, что это была человеческая кость.
В 2013 году профессор генетики из Оксфордского университета Брайан Сайкс провел ДНК-тест волос, которые якобы могли принадлежать йети. Тест показал, что это была шерсть древнего полярного медведя. По мнению ученого, за йети люди могли принимать как раз помесь полярного и бурого медведей.
