Человеческие следы, возраст которых составляет 15,6 тысячи лет, обнаружены на юге Чили. Об этом сообщил телеканал Teletrece, пишет ТАСС.

Группа ученых из Южного университета Чили сделала находку еще в 2011 году во время раскопок в одном из районов города Осорно. Спустя несколько лет археологам удалось установить, что найденные следы относятся к позднему Плейстоцену — эпохе четвертичного периода, начавшейся 2,588 миллиона лет назад и закончившейся 11,7 тысячи лет назад.

«Существуют и другие человеческие следы, обнаруженные в Америке, но ни в одном из случаев не удалось установить такой большой возраст», — сказала один из руководителей исследования, археолог Карен Морено. По ее словам, установить возраст находки удалось благодаря органическому растительному материалу, который был извлечен из места раскопок.

Как отметили ученые, в тех же слоях почвы были обнаружены орудия из камня, которые можно считать дополнительным свидетельством того, что в Южной Америке в то время уже жили люди. Ранее чилийским археологам уже удалось найти человеческий след возрастом 14,6 тысячи лет, однако в научном сообществе продолжались споры о времени заселения континента.

На данный момент древнейшие следы наших предков были обнаружены в Танзании. Их возраст оценивается в 3,5 миллиона лет.
