Сотрудники прокуратуры КНР провели арест бывшего главы Интерпола Мэн Хунвэя. Его подозревают в получении взяток, сообщает South China Morning Post, ссылаясь на сообщения правоохранительной структуры.

Материалы по подозрению во взяточничестве переданы на рассмотрение органов прокуратуры. Отмечается, что расследование продолжается.

В октябре 2018 года полиция Франции отреагировала на заявление жены чиновника о его пропаже. Женщина живет в Лионе, где расположена штаб-квартира Интерпола. Супруга 65-летнего Хунвэя обеспокоилась долгим исчезновением мужа. Через несколько дней глава Интерпола прислал заявление об отставке.

Мэн Хунвэй занимал должность с 2016 года. Он является первым гражданином Китая, которого назначили на пост президента Интерпола. После отставки его место занял представитель Южной Кореи Ким Чон Ян. Основным конкурентом Чон Яна на выборах был генерал-майор МВД РФ Александр Прокопчук. Против этой кандидатуры выступило большинство европейских стран.
