В организмах пресноводных креветок, обитающих на востоке Англии, обнаружен кокаин. Ученые нашли следы наркотика в ходе проверки качества речной воды в графстве Саффолк на востоке страны.

Команда экологов из Королевского колледжа Лондона и Университета Саффолка собрала образцы пресноводной фауны из пяти рек, расположенных в разных частях графства. В каждой было сделано по три забора: у истока, в середине русла и возле устья.
Кокаин был обнаружен во всех образцах без исключения. При этом в организмах многих животных были найдены и другие запрещенные наркотические препараты, в том числе кетамин. Результаты тестов весьма удивили ученых.
«Является ли наличие кокаина в организмах водных обитателей исключительно местной проблемой или же его можно найти и в других водоемах Великобритании, а также за пределами страны, еще предстоит установить», — заявил профессор Университета Саффолка Ник Бери.
«Состояние окружающей среды волнует широкую общественность из-за таких проблем, как изменение климата или загрязнение микрочастицами пластика. Однако необходимо уделять больше внимания и проблеме „невидимого“ загрязнения природы в Британии химическими веществами — в том числе и наркотиками», — убежден ученый.
Задачей исследования, результаты которого опубликованы в среду в журнале Environment International, было изучить степень проникновения различных микроскопических загрязнителей в организм пресноводных креветок Gammarus pulex.
Помимо наркотиков, во многих из собранных образцов были также обнаружены следы запрещенных пестицидов и различных лекарственных средств.
По словам ученых, на самих креветок все эти вещества не оказывают практически никакого влияния. Однако это вовсе не значит, что проблему можно считать несущественной.
«Удивительно, что запрещенные наркотики встречаются в живой природе с настолько завидной регулярностью, — говорит профессор Университетского колледжа Лондона Леон Баррон. — Таких результатов еще можно было бы ожидать в Лондоне и других городах — но никак не в мелких деревенских речках».
«Отдельную проблему представляет собой и присутствие пестицидов, применение которых давным-давно запрещено в Великобритании. Их источник остается неизвестным», — заключает профессор.
